Roberto Mancini Has Been Appointed as New Saudi Arabia National Team Head Coach

Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini will become the new manager of the Saudi Arabia national team on August 27, 2023. The announcement comes two weeks after he shockingly resigned from the Italian job.

The Saudi Arabian Soccer Federation (SAFF) has given Mancini a four-year deal, and he is going to be in charge of the Saudi Arabia team against Costa Rica on September 8, 2023.

Also, four days later, the team will face South Korea, which will take place in Newcastle. The Saudi Arabian Soccer Federation posted a video of Mancini saying

I made history in Europe; now it’s time to make history with Saudi Arabia. I am immensely honored to be offered the position as Saudi Arabia national team manager.”

“I believe this is a great opportunity for me to experience football in a new country, especially with the growing popularity of football in Asia.”

It was reported that the contract was worth $27 million. The manager will be presented at the press conference on August 28, 2023. The Italian is the latest name to join the oil-rich football revolution.

Clubs in the Saudi Arabia Pro League have spent billions on signing world-class players all over Europe. Mancini won the Euros in 2021, defeating England on penalties.

The manager won Serie A three times in a row with Inter Milan. He also won the Premier League title in 2011 on goal difference with runner-up Manchester United.

Although he failed to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. He was replaced by a former Napoli manager who won the Scudetto for Napoli, Luciano Spalletti.

It was revealed by the media that Roberto Mancini is set to receive a whopping 25 million euros as a salary after completing the move to the Middle East.

He started his managerial career in 2001 with Fiorentina, and it ended in 2002. He moved to Lazio in 2002 and left the Italian giant in 2004.

After that, the manager joined Inter Milan in 2004 and left the club in 2008. Mancini moved to Manchester City in 2009 and was sacked in 2013. As a world-class manager, he got another job before the end of 2013 in Turkey with Galatasaray.

However, he left the job in 2014. From 2014–2016, he was the manager of Inter Milan for the second spell of his career. Also in 2017, the manager went back to Zenit Petersburg.

After a long time with football clubs, he joined the Italian national team in 2018, which ended in 2023. He won the Euro Championship title with an unbeaten record.
