Last season’s Champions League finalist Inter Milan pulled out of the deal to sign Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku after he failed to negotiate with the club.
Inter Milan have been in talks with Chelsea since the beginning of the transfer window. It was understood that Chelsea rejected an offer of £26 million for Romelu Lukaku.
The striker spent last season on loan with Inter Milan, making 37 appearances and scoring 14 goals in all competitions. Romelu Lukaku also recorded seven assists.
Romelu Lukaku played for Inter Milan between 2019 and 2021, scoring 64 goals in 95 appearances for the Italian Giant. It appears that he will be returning to the club on a long-term basis, provided that Chelsea receives the asking price of £40 million.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Inter Milan pulled out of the deal to sign the striker after learning that the player was negotiating with Juventus on a potential move to the club.
Juventus are pushing very hard to sign Romelu Lukaku this season, with Dusan Vlahovic likely to join Paris Saint-Germain at the end of the transfer window.
Lukaku is also believed to have different options in the Saudi Arabia Pro League, with a number of clubs thought to be willing to pay him a huge salary to join the League.
Romelu Lukaku previously represented Chelsea from 2011 to 2015, but he failed to find the back of the net in 15 appearances. It led to the sale to Everton.
Lukaku’s form at Everton saw him move to Manchester United in the summer of 2017. He managed to score 42 goals in 96 appearances during his two seasons at the club.
