Benfica are closing in on Ángel Di Maria deal

Angel Di Maria is set for a sensational return to Benfica after 13 years of leaving the club following his decision to leave Juventus just after a season.

It was reported that Benfica are closer to completing the deal. Di Maria rose to prominence during his three-year spell with Benfica following his move from Argentinian side Rosario Central in 2007.

The 35-year-old attacking midfielder penned a one-year deal with the Old Lady, seven years after staying with Paris Saint-Germain.

During his stay at Paris Saint-Germain, the midfielder won a lot of trophies. Juventus finished in seventh place last season after a 10-point deduction for financial irregularities.

The midfielder played a notable role in enabling Lionel Messi and his Argentina teammates to win the World Cup.

He scored the second goal against France but was substituted in the second half. It was the player’s first World Cup.

He will not be available for the 2026 World Cup in America.
