Manchester United attacker Mason Greenwood has been retained by the club ahead of the 2023–24 season.
Greenwood remained suspended and hasn’t trained with the first team since he was arrested in January 2022.
The charges of rape and domestic abuse were dropped by his girlfriend in February 2023. Also, new evidence came to light that proved the English player innocent.
However, he is yet to return to Manchester United, with the club making some internal investigations about what happened before making a final decision.
This has led to speculation on whether the club wants to retain him, loan him, or sell him this summer. Manchester United released the names of their retained players for the 2023–24 season.
It was confirmed that Phil Jones and Axel Tuanzebe would be leaving the club. Both players are currently free agents.
The club is also discussing contracts with David De Gea, but the goalkeeper is not ready to take a pay cut. It was reported that the player is getting interest from Saudi Arabian teams.

In January 2022, Mason Greenwood was accused of trying to rape a woman, assault that resulted in serious bodily harm, and coercive and controlling behavior.
The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) declared that there was “no longer a realistic prospect of conviction” on February 2, 2023, and the charges were subsequently dismissed.
The decision to withdraw the charges, according to the CPS, was reached after “careful consideration of all the available evidence.”
According to the CPS, “key witnesses” had turned against the prosecution and “new material” had surfaced that “raised substantial doubt” over the validity of the evidence.
Greenwood has consistently maintained his innocence, and the decision to drop the charges has been welcomed by his legal team.
