Juventus have seen a 15-point reduction in Serie A this season after being found guilty of capital gains tax in a transfer deal. The National Soccer Federation made the claims on Friday.
The news came after it was reported that senior staff at the club are facing legal crises due to deliberate accounting inaccuracies from the period of 2018–2020.
After concerns about the clubs manipulation of its losses over a two-year period were raised, an investigation against the club was initiated last year.
It was claimed that this is one of the biggest punishments they have ever received. The team faced the Calciopoli scandal, which saw the old lady get relegated.
Juventus currently sit in third place with 20 games played and are 10 points adrift of league leaders Napoli. The point reduction may push them into the middle of the table and move them away from European football next season.
The decision seems to be a tough one for them. However, Italy’s most successful clubs and other teams have dealt with player exchange issues.
The soccer court also banned Juventus Chairman Andrea Agnelli from holding a soccer office in Italy in the next 24 months. The chairman was known for his involvement in the European Super League.
It was also decided that there should be a 30-month ban on Juventus’ former sporting director, Fabio Paratici. However, he is the sporting director of England’s Tottenham Hotspur.
It is going to be bad news for Tottenham. The sports director has worked efficiently with Antonio Conte to bring success to the London team.
Although the team has failed to perform this season, losing two Premier League matches in a row,
Juventus have been struggling to get points this season. The club that won nine titles on a roll hasn’t won in the previous two years and is likely not to win another one this season due to the points reduction.
The team is unlikely to compete with other big names in Serie A for the Champions League spot.
Sampdoria, Pro Vercelli, Genoa, Parma, Pisa, Empoli, Novara, and Pescara, as well as the directors of each club, have all been cleared of any wrongdoing.
