Atletico Madrid has identified former Barcelona and Spain manager Luis Enrique as the replacement for Diego Simeone if he leaves the club.

Luis Enrique was sacked after Spain failed to beat Morocco on penalties in the World Cup Round of 16. Enrique will be without a job, and he is hoping to return quickly to sports activities.

Simeone is in the hot seat after crashing out of the Champions League and failing to mount a good title challenge with neighbors Real Madrid.

Manchester United are also looking forward to getting the Spanish manager in case Erik ten Hag’s tenure becomes bad.

For now, though, Atletico appears to be the most likely next move for him amid doubts over Simeone’s future in Madrid.

The Spanish club are down in fifth in LaLiga and currently sit 13 points adrift of table-toppers Barcelona, while they also crashed out of the Champions League at the group stage.
